The Sunset Theater in Westhampton Beach, New York reopened recently, bringing movies back to a location that has been closed for five years.

Located on Long Island almost 80 miles east of New York City at the corner of Brook Road, Oak Street, and Mill Road, the theater is in the space that was the former Hampton Arts Cinema, which closed in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and never reopened. Until now, moviegoers in the area needed to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center in Westhampton Beach and the Regal UA Hampton Bays in Hampton Bays.

The building dates back to 1927 when it opened as the Hampton Star Theatre. An article published recently by Southforker (see below) has a quote from one of the theater's founders which mentions the challenges faced in reopening the theater. Along with upgraded seats in both the theater's screens, storage rooms and offices were replaced by a full bar, which will offer a food menu.

Memberships are available for individuals, senior citizens, and families, which provide discounts for watching movies, purchasing concessions, and more.

According to the theater's website, standard ticket prices are $18.50 and there are discounts for members, children, and senior citizens. You can find more details on the Ticket Prices page for the Sunset Theater.

The theater's website also mentions that it has a "strict no cell phone, no talking" policy during movie showings, which is always appreciated for the best enjoyment of the moviegoing experience!
