'2001: A Space Odyssey' Coming to IMAX Theaters - One Week Only Starting August 24, 2018

Movie PosterThe Sci/Fi classic, 2001: A Space Odyssey, is coming to more than 350 IMAX theaters across North America for one week only, starting August 24, 2018. The news comes from a press release issued recently by Warner Bros. Pictures.

The movie spans from the dawn of man to its title year. Stone Age Earth: In the presence of a mysterious black obelisk, pre-humans discover the use of tools - and weapons - violently taking first steps toward intelligence. 1999: On Earth's moon astronauts uncover another mysterious black obelisk. 2001: Between Earth and Jupiter, the spacecraft's intelligent computer makes a mistake that kills most of the human crew - then continues to kill to hide its error. Beyond Time: The sole survivor of the journey to Jupiter ascends to the next level of humanity.

As part of this release, four theaters will be featuring the movie on IMAX 70mm film. This 70mm print was created using the recently released "unrestored" 70mm print (2001: A Space Odyssey in 70mm Format) that was done without the use of digital technology to stay closer to the original.

The theaters showing 2001: A Space Odyssey - The IMAX 70MM Experience are as follows:

New York

The press release mentions that the rest of the theaters will be presenting the movie using a new 4K restoration. We don't have a complete list of participating locations yet, but keep an eye on the showtimes page for 2001: A Space Odyssey - The IMAX Experience for updates!
