The 88th annual Academy Awards ceremony was held on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood. It was hosted by actor Chris Rock.
The broadcast clocked in at just over 3.5 hours, with the finale being the announcement of Spotlight as the Best Picture. A consistent theme throughout the broadcast was the racial inequity of an all-white list of nominees. Chris Rock hammered the topic home many, many times, to the point of tedium. One would hope that the message has been sent loud and clear, and that 2016 will provide opportunities for a wide variety of people to demonstrate their best work and be recognized in the 2017 nominations.
New this year was the "thank you scroll" of names that appeared on-screen, which was intended to allow the winners to thank everyone, but keep the verbal speechmaking to a minimum. Not everyone got the memo, but most kept their speeches brief, and some even used the opportunity to say something interesting. Leonardo DiCaprio said it best at the end of his speech in which he made a plea to combat climate change, and when he said "I thank you all for this amazing award tonight. Let us not take this planet for granted. I do not take tonight for granted. Thank you so very much."

I correctly predicted 17 out of 24. Not bad, but i could do better.
