2025 Academy Award Nominations Announced

Posted on Thursday, January 23, 2025 4:34 PM

Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott host the announcement of the 97th Oscars® nominations, on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

The nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were announced today, January 23, 2025. Actor-writer-comedians Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott presented the nominations live from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California, which was broadcast live online and on ABC. The nominations were delayed due to the impact of the fires in Southern California.

The Oscars, as they are commonly known, are given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). The organization is comprised of more than 10,500 people worldwide recognized as accomplished in the industry through their work and/or leadership. Members from each of the nineteen branches vote for the nominees in their category of expertise (actors vote for actors, directors for directors, etc.). All members are eligible to vote for Best Picture, Animated Feature Film, International Feature Film, and Live Action Short Film nominees. That voting begins February 11 and goes through February 18, 2025.

The Netflix drama Emilia Pérez leads the pack with thirteen nominations, including Best Picture, Best International Feature Film, Direction, and more. Ten movies were nominated for Best Picture, with six of those having appeared in the Box Office Top Ten Reports. Two of the five movies nominated for Best Animated Feature Film achieved that status. That means that eleven of the fifteen movies nominated for best picture have been seen by a relatively large number of American moviegoers.

How to Watch the Oscars Ceremony

The 97th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be shown live on ABC and streamed live on Hulu.
