The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards® were announced today, January 22, 2026. Oscar-nominated actor Danielle Brooks and actor Lewis Pullman presented the nominations live from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California, which was broadcast live online and on ABC.

The Oscars, as they are commonly known, are given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). The organization is comprised of more than 10,000 people worldwide recognized as accomplished in the industry through their work and/or leadership. Members from each of the nineteen branches vote for the nominees in their category of expertise (actors vote for actors, directors for directors, etc.). All members are eligible to vote for Best Picture, Animated Feature Film, International Feature Film, and Live Action Short Film nominees. That voting begins February 26 and goes through March 5, 2026.

There are 24 categories of awards, with each category having five nominees. The category of Best Picture has 10 nominees. New this year is the Casting category, which is the first new category in 25 years.

How to Watch the Oscars Ceremony

The 98th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be shown live on ABC and streamed live on Hulu.
