New release dates have been set for A Quiet Place Part II and Top Gun: Maverick.
Following a series of updates for Tenet, The Broken Hearts Gallery, Mulan, and more, Paramount Pictures announced that A Quiet Place Part II will open in theaters April 23, 2021, and Top Gun: Maverick will debut July 2, 2021.
According to a recent news article in Variety, the studio is committed to opening major movies in theaters:
“We truly believe that there is no movie-viewing experience like the one enjoyed in theatres,” said Paramount’s president of domestic distribution Chris Aronson, and president of international theatrical distribution Mark Viane. “We are committed to the theatrical experience and our exhibition partners, and want to stress that we are confident that, when the time comes, audiences everywhere will once again enjoy the singular joy of seeing Paramount films on the big screen.”

A Quiet Place Part II was the first movie to be delayed in March when concerns about the coronavirus pandemic was starting to close movie theaters, as well as schools and other organizations. At the time, it was delayed from March 20 to September 4, and this latest change is another indication that studios are looking to 2021 instead of 2020 for these movie releases.
Top Gun: Maverick was delayed in April from its original June release to December 23, and the article mentions that this latest change likely had as much to do with the promotional availability of star Tom Cruise than anything else. He's trying to get Mission: Impossible 7 production wrapped up, and the coronavirus shutdowns have impacted movie production as much as theatrical distribution, if not more.
Additional changes were announced for the following movies:
- Jackass - opening September 3, 2021 (was July 2021)
- The Tiger's Apprentice - opening February 10, 2023 (was February 11, 2022)
- Untitled Spider-Man Sequel - opening December 17, 2021 (was November 5, 2021)
