Have we got the variety for you this weekend! Along with last week's leftovers, there's an eclectic mix of movies opening this weekend.
The easiest to explain is the Tim Allen / John Travolta / Martin Lawrence / William H. Macy road trip movie "Wild Hogs," which is a comedy about a group of middle-aged guys who decide to take a road trip on their motorcycles. Given the cast involved, this one has promise, although one shouldn't expect too much from this kind of movie.
If a suspense/thriller is more your speed, there is "Zodiac," starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., and Anthony Edwards. The movie is about the search for the Zodiac killer, who claimed victim after victim in the San Francisco area between 1966 and 1978. The movie is directed by David Fincher, who brought us "Panic Room," "Fight Club," "The Game," and "Seven." If we ignore the fact that he was also responsible for "Alien 3," this movie also has promise, especially due to the strong cast involved.
Last up is "Black Snake Moan," starring Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci. This one happens to be the weekend's favorite of our Featured Movie Critic, but it's also the one that's probably going to have the hardest time finding an audience. Do yourself a favor and read up on this movie before you dismiss it out of hand; it may be the most rewarding of the three if you're into movies that don't follow traditional paths (that usually lead to mediocrity).
