The major releases this weekend are Will Ferrell's "Blades of Glory" and Disney's animated "Meet the Robinsons" but there are a few limited release openers today, as well as the release of "Are We Done Yet?" and "Firehouse Dog" on Wednesday.

A full plate, indeed!

From what our Featured Movie Critic says, if you liked "Talladega Nights" you might like "Blades of Glory." There's the Will Ferrell factor, plus it's a comedy about a sports institution. Toss in a bunch of SNL actors, and you might have something enjoyable. Watching the trailer should leave no mystery as to the type of movie you should expect, so be sure to check that and the videos we have for the movie on the Trailers and Media Clips page.

Disney is bringing us the animated "Meet the Robinsons" in two different versions. The standard version is going to be the most widespread, but if you're into wearing those fashionable glasses and you enjoy the gimmick, you can check out "Meet the Robinsons in Disney Digital 3-D." How is Disney Digital 3-D different from regular 3-D? Probably about as much different as movies on "Disney DVD" as opposed to movies on regular DVD. Maybe it will be consistent, and there will be more commercials ahead of the "Disney Digital 3-D" version...

Also being released today is probably the most intriguing movie of the weekend, which is "The Lookout" starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jeff Daniels, and Isla Fisher ("Wedding Crashers").

Gordon-Levitt is a once-promising high school athlete whose life is turned upside down following a tragic accident. As he tries to maintain a normal life, he takes a job as a janitor at a bank where he ultimately finds himself caught up in a planned heist.

I might be wrong, but it looks interesting.

Rounding out today's releases are the documentary "Operation Homecoming" and the "we're giving away free tickets" release of "Peaceful Warrior." Will the giveaway work to build word of mouth and generate interest in the movie? We won't know until at least next weekend, but considering the movies that are opening on Wednesday and the following Friday, it probably doesn't stand much of a chance of breaking the top 10.

Speaking of the movies opening on Wednesday, Ice Cube's 2005 movie "Are We There Yet?" must have made enough money that a sequel sounded like a good idea to someone, so we have "Are We Done Yet?" This installment in what could be a franchise has our Nick Persons (Mr. Cube) moving to the suburbs and buying a house that is best described as a fixer-upper. Throw in a bizzare realtor/contractor, and you have a mix between Chevy Chase's "Funny Farm" and Tom Hanks' "The Money Pit."

Also on Wednesday, in perhaps an homage to this week's DVD release of "Charlotte's Web," we have "Firehouse Dog" starring Josh Hutcherson (last seen in "Bridge to Terabithia"), Bree Turner, and Bruce Campbell. If the dog had a spider-friend, maybe the firehouse would have a web in the corner of the door that spelled out "Some Dog" but this movie looks like it will only appeal to the Disney-channel audience.

Finally, on Thursday, Hilary Swank's "The Reaping" rolls into theaters to get an early start on the Easter Weekend. What better way to celebrate Easter than with a movie about a woman who goes around debunking religious phenomena? Maybe it's just a coincidence, but it almost seems like someone is trying to say something with the timing of the movie.

No matter if there are hidden agendas at work, I've seen the trailer and I can't quite figure out how Hilary Swank would have gotten involved in what appears on the surface to be a B-grade horror movie? Bridget Fonda had a promising movie career with some good roles in movies like "A Simple Plan" and "It Could Happen to You," but then she did "Lake Placid" in 1999 and she hasn't done much since. Maybe just a coincidence, but poor movie choices have grounded more than one promising career.

Like I said earlier this month, we're gonna need major amounts of disbelief for this one.

So there you go, that's the buffet of new movies you have to choose from in the next week. Just remember, it's going to be a very busy summer, so pace yourself!
