The former AMC Classic Aberdeen 9 at the Uptown Aberdeen shopping center in Aberdeen, South Dakota will be reopening soon as the Golden Ticket Cinemas - Aberdeen 9.

Located in what used to be called the Aberdeen Mall on 6th Ave SE, the theater was a Carmike location until AMC bought Carmike Cinemas in 2017. Golden Ticket Cinemas operates six locations around the country, including the Golden Ticket Cinemas - Rushmore 7 in Rapid City. It recently acquired another former AMC location, the AMC Classic Butte 6, after it closed in February 2020.

The company made the announcement recently via a press release:

ABERDEEN, SD (Press Release) – This fall, the Cinema 9 at the Uptown Aberdeen (aka Aberdeen Mall) will reopen under new ownership as the Golden Ticket Cinemas Aberdeen 9. Guests will be wowed with new luxury reclining seats upon reopening. After the grand reopening, more remodeling and upgrades will be added in 2021, as patrons will be able to enjoy an expanded food and beverage menu, upgraded sound as well as a fresh new upscale look. Golden Ticket Cinemas will finally bring a new modern movie experience to Aberdeen.

“The upgrading of the theatre is long overdue, but our first goal is getting the theatre reopened so we can get movies back on screen for the moviegoers in Aberdeen” said John Bloemeke, President of Golden Ticket Cinemas.

“The existing theatre has entertained many for years, but an upgrade to a luxury experience is long overdue. Currently there are not a lot of new movies to play, which gives us the perfect opportunity to replace the seating before a grand return to movie going this fall. The goal is to bring many large market amenities to smaller towns like Aberdeen. We can’t wait to see the reaction to the changes that we have in store. Most importantly, we are committed to not increasing prices. In fact, we will be adding numerous promotions and values that are new to the market.” Bloemeke added “Discount tickets on Tuesdays will continue. The existing, and well loved, popcorn bucket will continue as we will fill your previously bought 2020 buckets for only $4.25 through the end of the year.”

The reopening of the cinema will feature the new reclining seating while further cosmetic changes and a new food and beverage menu will be added in 2021.
