The thriller Anniversary opened in theaters a few weeks ago and is now available on streaming digital services.

Starring Diane Lane, Kyle Chandler, Phoebe Dynevor, Dylan O'Brien, and others, the movie starts with an idyllic celebration of the 25th wedding anniversary of Ellen and Paul with their close-knit family and friends. By the time their 30th anniversary rolls around near the end of the movie, the family, and the country, is in a very different place. The cause for all that ensues is a political movement brought on by their son's new girlfriend and her book which outlined anti-democratic positions that caused a disagreement when she was Ellen's student at Georgetown University.

What appears at first to be a traditional "mother vs. new girlfriend with new ideas and priorities" movie is actually something much more nuanced. I've written a Reader Review that covers my thoughts about the movie, so I encourage you to read the reviews there and then contribute your own after seeing the movie!

The movie did not get a very wide release when it debuted in movie theaters in late October. Given the star power in the cast, showing on just 800 screens did not give it the exposure that it deserved. There are articles about why that might be, which the interested reader can find, but what really matters is that this is a movie worth watching. Given that it's not playing in theaters any longer, we're glad that it's available to watch at home!
