Ten years ago, Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons appeared in Whiplash, the story of an ambitious young jazz drummer, single-minded in his pursuit to rise to the top of his elite east coast music conservatory. Simmons plays Terence Fletcher, an instructor who leads the top jazz ensemble in the school and is infamous for his teaching talents and his terrifying methods. Andrew's ambition spirals into obsession, as his ruthless teacher continues to push him to the brink of both his ability--and his sanity.

The movie is intense and it examines how willing one person is willing to go to pursue their ambitions, and what they may have to give up in the process. I gave it a See Now! rating, and it went on to win three Academy Awards, including one for Simmons. His performance sticks with you, so if you only know J.K. Simmons from his insurance commercials, buckle up!
