The AMC movie theater in Ashtabula, Ohio has closed, leaving the area without a movie theater.

Located in the Ashtabula Towne Square shopping center on North Ridge Road E, the AMC Classic Ashtabula Mall 6 closed July 20, 2023. According to a recent news article (see below), AMC was unhappy with the theater's performance and the company was unable to reach an agreement for the lease renewal.

The theater's closure means that moviegoers must travel at least 30 miles to see a movie on the big screen. The next closest theater is the Atlas Cinemas Diamond Center 16 in Mentor. If you have AMC gift cards to use, the closest AMC location is the AMC Waterfront 22 in West Homestead, Pennsylvania, which is more than two hours away.

Theater History

According to our records, the theater originally opened in 1992 as the Cinema World when the mall opened. It was later known as the Carmike Cinema - Ashtabula. It became the AMC Classic Ashtabula Mall 6 after AMC acquired Carmike Cinemas in April 2017.
