'Avengers: Endgame' Re-Release Hoping to Overcome 'Avatar' Record

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is telling numerous publications that Avengers: Endgame, will be re-released in theaters with additional content, presumably in the hopes of pushing the movie's box office revenue over the record currently held by Avatar.

According to BoxOfficeMojo, Avatar has garnered nearly 2.79 billion dollars worldwide since it opened in December 2009 (amount not adjusted for inflation). In comparison, they are reporting that Avengers: Endgame has pulled in just over 2.74 billion dollars since the end of April. Can Marvel find another $44M laying around in spare change that die-hard fans might fork over?

The best way to do that would be to give them some extra morsels of content they haven't seen before, and that's just what they're planning to do, even if it's the smallest of morsels. Feige told ScreenRant that there would be something extra tacked onto the end of the movie:

In an interview with Screen Rant during the Spider-Man: Far From Home junket, Feige confirmed Endgame will be re-released on June 28. While it isn't an extended cut of the 3-hour epic, it will have extra surprises for people who stick around:

"Not an extended cut, but there will be a version going into theaters with a bit of a marketing push with a few new things at the end of the movie. If you stay and watch the movie, after the credits, there’ll be a deleted scene, a little tribute, and a few surprises. Which will be next weekend."

This probably isn't going to be enough to push the movie over the top, but the publicity that it's getting (from articles like this one) probably isn't going to hurt any.

Due to the wonders of mergers and acquisitions, both movies are owned by the Walt Disney Company. Marvel was acquired in 2009, and 20th Century Fox was the company's most recent acquisition, having closed earlier this year. Either way this turns out, Disney is sitting pretty...

If you aren't planning to see Avengers: Endgame again in theaters, you'll have to wait a while longer to watch it at home. While the details aren't released yet, the movie was released about 55 days ago, and home video releases usually become available around 95-100 days after release. That would put Endgame's release some time after July 30th, so keep your eyes open for updates!
