The movie theater in the Lakeview Square Mall in Battle Creek, Michigan has closed.

Located southwest of the M-66 interchange with I-94, the NCG - Battle Creek was one of three options for watching movies in Battle Creek. The movie theater showed its last movies on January 6, 2025. The following message was posted Monday morning on the theater's website:

Our Battle Creek theater is permanently closed.

We're incredibly grateful to everyone who shared movie moments with us over the years. Our appreciation for this community remains.

NCG Cinemas has been operating the theater since it took over from Carmike Cinemas in 2016. The company continues to operate eight locations in Michigan, as well as 18 more in several states across the country.

Where to Watch Movies on the Big Screen

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the JC Cinema and the GQT W. Columbia 7 in Battle Creek, and the Bogar Theatre in Marshall. If you have NCG gift cards to use, the closest location is the NCG - Coldwater Cinemas in Coldwater, which is about 25 miles from Battle Creek.

Theater History

The movie theater opened 35 years ago on November 17, 1995 as the GKC Lakeview Square Cinemas. Carmike Cinemas purchased GKC Cinemas in 2005 and it was renamed to the Carmike Lakeview Square Cinemas. Carmike closed the Battle Creek location in January 2015, and it was announced at the time that NCG would be taking over later that year following renovations.

The NCG - Battle Creek opened in April 2016, and the former Cheap Flicks on South Helmer Road reopened in June 2016 as the JC Cinema. All that activity likely caused the Goodrich W. Columbia 7 Theater on West Columbia Avenue to plan upgrades in 2017. That theater is now known as the GQT W. Columbia 7.

Moviegoers in the Battle Creek area had an embarrassment of riches for some time, but now they are down to just two movie theaters that are less than a mile apart.
