Construction on the Marcus Bistroplex Brookfield Square in Brookfield, Wisconsin is set to begin later this month, according to a press release from CBL Properties, the owner of the Brookfield Square shopping center. The construction is part of the first phase of redevelopment for the building that previously housed a Sears department store, which also will include a Whirlyball center.

“The addition of WhirlyBall and BistroPlex will further enhance Brookfield Square’s position as the premier dining and entertainment destination in the greater Milwaukee market. Since acquiring the Sears building last year and announcing our plans for future redevelopment, we have received significant demand from a variety of users interested in being a part of this transformative project,” said Stephen Lebovitz, president & CEO, CBL Properties. “We are thrilled to confirm the addition of these two world-class entertainment venues and commence construction.”

Marcus' BistroPlex concept is marketed by the company as "a restaurant that serves movies," which demonstrates that their emphasis is on the dining aspect of the experience, with watching movies as an add-on amenity. Marcus opened the Marcus Bistroplex Southridge at the Southridge Mall in nearby Greendale in June 2017(read the article).

According to the press release, the bistroplex will have the company's DreamLoungerSM powered recliners in every auditorium, with a full-service bar and lounge area, and an outdoor dining area.

When everything is completed, people going to Brookfield Square will have the ability to spend a very full evening on the south end of the mall. Get dinner and a movie at the Bistroplex, play Whirlyball, and then go bowling in an eight-lane bowling alley and/or laser tag in a multi-level arena.

No completion dates were given on the project, so it's a little early to start making plans that evening of fun.

It will be interesting to find out what the start of construction will do, if anything, to the prospects of a movie theater at The Corners of Brookfield mall, located just a few miles away to the west. Plans on that project were approved in October 2017, amidst objections and a threat of legal action by Marcus Theatres. It might just come down to a race between the projects (which Marcus may get an early lead) or it will results in two similar operations that will duke it out for the attentions of moviegoers.
