Bryan, TX: Movie Theaters Get New Operator

Posted on Monday, June 28, 2021 and updated on Thursday, July 29, 2021 2:03 PM

The Queen Theatre and the Palace Theater in Bryan, Texas are getting a new operator and are expected to reopen later in 2021.

The news was announced in an article published recently in The Eagle:

First-run movies and new seating are just a couple of items in store for the Queen and Palace theaters in Downtown Bryan now that EPMC is managing the historic locations.

Under the newly approved, six-year management agreement, the city of Bryan still owns the theaters and all the materials in them, but EPMC is responsible for concessions and restaurant operations, negotiating contracts with film distributors, box office operations, facility equipment selection, marketing, maintenance and repairs, corporate accounting, managing employees and more. The agreement, effective July 5, will automatically renew for an additional five years unless the city or the company gives notice to terminate.

The Queen Theatre was a hotel when it opened in 1885. It transitioned from showing movies on the ground level in the early 1900s to a full movie theater in 1939. After closing in the 1970s, the theater was donated to the city in 1987 and it reopened in 2018.

The Palace Theater is an open-air amphitheater that is located at the site of the original Palace Theater, which dated back to 1922 and it was demolished after the roof collapsed in 1986. (We're not sure when it was demolished)
