The Merrill's Roxy Cinemas in Burlington, Vermont has closed.

Located in downtown Burlington on the corner of College Street and South Winooski Avenue, the movie theater announced its closure on its Facebook page on November 7, 2024:

After two decades of bringing films and stories to life in downtown Burlington, Merrill’s Roxy Cinema will be closing its doors. It has been an honor to be part of this community and to create a space where people could gather and laugh, cry, and experience the magic of cinema together.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who have supported us over the years. From regular moviegoers to first-time visitors, your presence and passion have meant everything to us. We’re deeply grateful for the memories and connections made within these walls.
Thank you for allowing us to share so many cinematic moments with you!

The theater's website still lists movies that were coming soon, but there are no showtimes listed, nor are any available on the link for purchasing tickets online. Calling the theater's message phone number resulted in endless ringing.

The movie theater originally opened in 1981 as the Nickelodeon Cinemas, and has been known by its current name since 2003, when it was acquired by Merrill Theatre Cinema Corporation. The company closed the Palace 9 in South Burlington last November.

Where to Find Movies on the Big Screen

Fortunately for moviegoers in the area, other theaters are nearby, including the Sunset Drive-In in Colchester, the Majestic 10 in Williston, and the Essex Cinemas in Essex Junction. The Majestic 10 is operated by Merrill Theatre Cinema Corporation, and it will be accepting gift cards and passes from the Roxy Cinemas.
