Burlington, WI: Plaza Theater Offering Parking Lot Movies

The Plaza Theater in Burlington, Wisconsin remains closed, but that's not stopping them from showing movies!

According to a recent article published in the Racine Journal-Times, the theater tried to start showing movies in the parking lot across the street last weekend, but were put off by the weather:

A weather forecast that included rain and a tornado watch last Saturday night prevented the start of Plaza Theater’s outdoor movie series, The opener has been rescheduled to this week Saturday.

It’s on again for Pop-Up Movies with “Onward” planned to show at 8:30 p.m. across the street from Plaza Theater in Reineman’s True Value parking lot in the 400 block of Milwaukee Avenue. Gates open at 7 p.m.

The movie will be shown on a jumbo inflatable screen and audio broadcast on an FM radio frequency and outdoor speakers. Before the feature, humorous, vintage commercials and concession jingles will keep people entertained.

Individuals will be able walk in, carrying personal lawn chairs and blankets, in addition to carloads of people. Social distancing will be practiced between groups and vehicles. Those preferring pre-paid reservations can do so on the theater’s Facebook page or at plaza4.com.

They are charging $25 per carload or $5 per person if you walk in. The carload price includes a large popcorn or a $5 gift certificate to use at the theater when it opens again. They have an outdoor speaker system and you can listen using an FM radio.

According to the ticketing link on the theater's official web site, the movie this weekend is Saturday, May 30, 2020 and they will be showing the Disney Pixar comedy Onward. The gates open at 7pm and the movie begins at 8:30pm. Concessions will be available.

If you can't make it to the Burlington location, but you still want to see a movie outdoors, check out the Milky Way Drive-In in Franklin (Milwaukee area) and the Golden Age Cinemas - McHenry Outdoor Theater in McHenry, Illinois, as well as the new parking lot cinema at the Marcus Majestic Cinema of Brookfield (Milwaukee area).
