The movie theater in The Commons at Calabasas shopping center in Calabasas, California has closed.
Located along Ventura Freeway near Parkway Calabasas, the last day of operation for the Regency Calabasas Commons was December 28, 2025. According to multiple news reports (see below), it appears that the movie theater will be demolished to make way for a redevelopment of the shopping center.
The theater announced its closure on its social media in mid-December:
It has been our pride and pleasure to serve the Calabasas community. Due to the Calabasas Commons redevelopment, we will be closing on December 28, 2025. We hope you’ll join us for a movie before then. We are truly grateful for your patronage and hope we’ve provided you with many great movie memories.
The movie theater was operated by Regency Theatres, which has 16 locations in California, Arizona, and Hawaii.
Where to Watch Movies on the Big Screen
Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the AMC Fallbrook 7 in West Hills and the AMC Dine-In Topanga 12 in Canoga Park and the AMC Northridge 10 in Northridge.
If you have a Regency Theatres gift card to use, the closest location is the Regency Granada Hills 9 and the Regency Van Nuys Plant 16 & REX, which are about 12 miles to the northeast (a minimum 30-minute drive).
Theater History
According to our records, the theater originally opened December 18, 1998 as the Edwards Grand Palace Stadium Cinemas (Edwards Theatres). It was later known as the Edwards Grand Palace Stadium 9. Regal purchased Edwards Theatres and United Artists Theatres in 2002 and formed Regal Entertainment Group, which was acquired by Cineworld Group PLC in 2017. It closed as the Regal Edwards Calabasas in September 2022 following its parent company filing for bankruptcy. It reopened in December 2022 as the Regency Calabasas Commons.
