The Metropolitan Calexico 10 Theatre in Calexico, California has closed.

Located along Imperial Avenue, the movie theater's last day of operation was Sunday, May 3, 2026. It was operated by Metropolitan Theatres Corporation, which operates 10 theaters in California and Colorado.

According to recent news reports (see below), the company's decision to close the Calexico location comes after "ongoing industry and economic challenges that have made continued operations financially unsustainable." The company declared bankruptcy in 2024, and said at the time that it would not close any of its 15 locations.

Where to Watch Movies on the Big Screen

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Cinemark Imperial Valley Mall 14 in El Centro and the Movies Imperial in Imperial. If you have Metropolitan Theatres gift cards to use, the closest location is the Metropolitan MetroLux Theatres + IMAX @ San Clemente, which is nearly a three-hour drive away.
