The Main Street Theatres - Harper Theater in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois opened to the public Saturday, May 20, 2023.

Located on S. Harper Avenue and E. 53rd Street, the historic theater showed its last movies November 30, 2022, with the promise that a new operator would be reopening it some time in 2023. The building dates back to the early 1900s and has been known as the Hyde Park Theater, The Meridian, Meridian Theatres - Hyde Park, and finally, The Harper Theater.

As mentioned in that story, the theater is being operated by Main Street Theatres, Inc. (aka ACX Cinemas), which operates locations in Iowa and Nebraska, and a forthcoming location in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area.

Until now, moviegoers in the area needed to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Doc Films - Max Palevsky Cinema, the Cinema Chatham Powered by Emagine, and the Kerasotes Chicago ShowPlace ICON at Roosevelt Collections.
