The movie theater in the Shoppes at Banks Crossing shopping center in Commerce, Georgia has closed, leaving Commerce and the surrounding area without a movie theater.

Located just south of I-85 along US Highway 441, the GTC Commerce Stadium Cinemas 6 showed its last movies Monday, June 9, 2025. The movie theater was operated by The Georgia Theatre Company, which has 20 locations across Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and Virginia.

The movie theater's closure was announced the same day on its Facebook page:

It's with a heavy heart we announce the closure of GTC Commerce Cinemas.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our guests who have supported us throughout the years. From first dates to family outings, blockbuster premieres to quiet matinees, it's been an honor to be part of your story. While our screens may be dark, the memories live on. We hope to welcome you soon at another Georgia Theatre Company location.

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Cine Bar Cafe Cinema and the Athens-Clarke County Library in Athens, which are about 18 miles away. The closest GTC location is the GTC University 16 Cinemas, which is also in Athens.
