Right on schedule, Marantz has begun releasing the firmware update to enable the DTS:X immersive sound format and support for HDMI 2.0a (which enables HDR playback) for three additional A/V receivers in their product line. In early February, they released similar firmware for their top-of-the-line A/V preamplifier/processor, the AV8802A.
Marantz AV7702
The models that can be updated in yesterday's release include the 11.2-channel $2,199 AV7702mkII preamp processor, 9.2-channel $2,199 SR7010 A/V receiver, and 7.2-channel SR6010 A/V receiver.
We expect that this update is identical to the previous one. For that update, Marantz created the AV8802(A) DTS:X Update guide. That document mentions that the following features have been added:
- DTS:X decoding
- DTS Neural:X upmixing to enjoy non DTS:X content (in PCM or DTS format) using the full DTS:X speaker configuration
The following changes are included in this update as well:
- DTS Neo:X will be replaced by DTS Neural:X
- Dolby Surround mode usage will be limited to PCM and Dolby content
Additionally, the update includes support for HDMI 2.0a, which enables HDR playback from media devices, such as the new Samsung UBD-K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray player.
Enthusiasts on the AVS Forum have begun to download the update and the first impressions of playing the already-released DTS:X titles on Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray, so if you're interested, select the link below:
