The Northtowne Cinemas in Defiance, Ohio showed its last movies June 23, 2022.
Located in the Northtowne Mall just south of Highway 24 on North Clinton Street, the movie theater was operated by MovieScoop Cinemas, which posted the following message on its website:
Thank you for your interest in Northtowne Cinemas! Northtowne Cinemas played its last set of movies on June 23! We've enjoyed providing great entertainment and delicious popcorn over these past 14 years! Thank you for the wonderful memories!
An article published recently in The Crescent-News (see below) mentions the possibility of another operator coming in and taking over the theater.
Until that happens (if it does), moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Bryan Theatre in Bryan, the Skye Cinema in Wauseon, and Field of Dreams Drive-In - Liberty Center in Liberty Center.
MovieScoop Cinemas continues to operate five other locations. The closest is the Kent Plaza Cinemas on the other side of Akron, with the rest in Pennsylvania.
