Since 2009, the movie theater just south of I-90 on Bennett Road in Dunkirk, New York has been known as the Spotlight Cinemas Dunkirk. Spotlight Cinemas recently sold the operation and it is now known as the Dunkirk Multiplex. Dunkirk is located along the shores of Lake Erie, approximately halfway between Erie and Buffalo.

According to the contact that answered our inquiry on their Facebook page, the eight-screen movie theater changed hands June 17, 2022. An article published in March by The Post-Journal (see list below) says that a loan using federal funds had been approved by the county Industrial Development Agency to help the theater's manager cover some of the purchase price.

In a time when many movie theaters are struggling to get their footing after the pandemic, it's great to see a movie theater stay open independently. It's a win for moviegoers in the area as well, as the nearest theaters are the Chautauqua Cinema in Chautauqua (19 miles away) and the Dipson Chatauqua Mall I & II and the Dipson Lakewood Cinema 8 in Lakewood (25 miles away).
