Eagan, MN: Plans for Former Regal Eagan Stadium 16 Include Movie Theater, Axe-throwing

Posted on Wednesday, April 24th, 2019 8:31 PM

Rendering of Proposed Theater Exterior

The Regal Eagan Stadium 16 in Eagan, Minnesota closed April 19th, and in the article, we mentioned that if anyone had $8.2M handy, they could reopen the theater. It appears that Michigan-based Emagine Entertainment was paying attention to that property, as the company has plans to reopen the 16-screen theater.

Plans were presented in front of the city's Advisory Planning Commission on Tuesday that include reopening the theater with thirteen screens, with one auditorium converted to a small "preview" theater, and an axe-throwing room taking the place of one of the other auditoriums. One additional auditorium will be used for storage. In addition to changes to the building's exterior for branding and signage, three new buildings would be added in the parking lot.

Emagine Entertainment LogoEmagine Entertainment operates eight locations in Minnesota, as well as twelve more in Wisconsin, Illinois, and its home state of Michigan. The closest location is the Emagine Lakeville, which is about eleven miles to the south along I-35.

Axe-throwing in a movie theater complex is not completely new, as Emagine just added axe-throwing as an amenity to the Emagine Monticello in Monticello, Minnesota (about 45 miles northwest, on the other side of Minneapolis).

Until it reopens, moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the CMX - Mall of America in Bloomington, the AMC Classic Apple Valley 15 in Apple Valley, and the CMX - Paragon Odyssey in Burnsville. All are about five miles away from this theater's location.

If you're interested in watching the entire presentation and discussion at the Advisory Planning Commission meeting, please see the video of the proceedings.
