Eagle Theaters Close All Locations - Three Illinois Cities Lose Movies on the Big Screen

Posted on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 1:06 PM

Closed sign

Three movie theaters operated by Eagle Theaters in three Illinois cities have closed, leaving those communities without a local movie theater.

The Eagle Theater in Robinson, the Clintonia Eagle in Clinton, and the Streator Eagle 6 in Streator closed January 4, 2026. The website for Eagle Theaters now displays a message that reads:

We are closed.

Thanks for 9 years of memories & magic

Love,

Streator Eagle 6 Staff

Switching locations from Streator displays a farewell message related to that specific location.

Streator Eagle 6 - Streator

Located about 100 miles southwest of Chicago, the Streator Eagle 6 opened in December 2016. The movie theater dates back to 1999, when it opened as the RMC Northpoint Cinemas. An article published recently by Shaw Local (see below) mentions that the Streator City Council approved a $60,000 payment to cover past-due property taxes on the property to protect its interests in the property. That article says that the city previously provided $340,000 in redevelopment subsidies and a $150,000 loan for the project.

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the VIP Roxy Cinemas in Ottawa and the AMC Classic Peru Mall 8 in Peru.

Eagle Theater - Robinson

Nearly mid-way between St. Louis and Indianapolis, the Eagle Theater in Robinson opened February 4, 2004. According to an article published recently by the Daily News (see below), the property was sold December 9, 2025 as part of a foreclosure proceedings.

Moviegoers in the Robinson area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Drive 'N Theatre AKA Fairview Drive In in Newton (once the weather improves, of course) and the AMC Classic Vincennes 8 in Vincennes, Indiana.

Clintonia Eagle - Clinton

Splitting the distance between the two other theaters, the Clintonia Eagle in Clinton is about 50 miles northeast of Springfield. It originally opened August 15, 2008.

Moviegoers in the Clinton area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Princess Theatre in LeRoy, the VIP Lincoln Grand in Lincoln, and the Golden Ticket Cinemas - Ale House Bloomington in Bloomington.

While no plans have been confirmed, mentions in the news articles and messages posted on social media indicate that the operators are trying to come up with ways to reopen one or more of the theaters again.

These movie theater closures leave people the towns they're in without options to see movies on the big screen that don't involve driving 30 minutes or more. They underscore the importance of patronizing the movie theaters that are left and not taking their presence for granted.

If you have a local movie theater, especially an independent theater that doesn't have the backing of a large corporation behind it, make plans now to watch a movie and enjoy some concessions! Invite that friend you keep intending to get together with. Call your mom and treat her to a movie. Make plans for Valentine's Day with that special someone. A dinner and a movie is a classic date night!
