The Republic Theatres - Movie Palace Elizabethtown in Elizabethtown, Kentucky has closed.

Located on Woodland Drive along the Elizabethtown Bypass north of downtown, the movie theater last showed movies Sunday, November 6, 2022. It announced the closure at the end of October on its Facebook page:

We want to let everyone know that Movie Palace will be CLOSING FOR GOOD.

Our last day will be Sunday, Nov 6th.

The movie theater was operated by Republic Theatres, whose location in Radcliff closed in August. Their logic at the time was that closing the Showtime Cinemas in Radcliff would direct more customers to the Movie Palace, but it doesn't seem to have been enough to keep the Elizabethtown location open. The company also operates the Republic Theatres - Franklin Square Cinema in Frankfort, as well as theaters in Indiana and Ohio (see locations).

According to a story published by WDRB (see below), the owners are open to someone buying and reopening the theater, but they are also considering getting rid of the building and replacing it with more storage units like the ones that are nearby.

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Crowne Pointe Theatre in Elizabethtown and the Cinemark Preston Crossings 16 in Okolona.
