The third installment of the planned 5-movie Fantastic Beasts franchise, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3, will open in theaters November 12th, 2021.

The announcement was made today by Ron Sanders, President, Worldwide Theatrical Distribution and Home Entertainment for Warner Bros. Pictures:

J.K. Rowling created an awe-inspiring universe that has captivated people of all ages, taking us on an extraordinary magical journey. Warner Bros. is so proud to be the cinematic home of the Wizarding World and is excited about the future of the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise. We look forward to bringing the third chapter of the five-film series to audiences around the globe in November 2021.

We originally had the movie penciled in for a November 2020 release, but that was never final. The previous installment, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, hit theaters in November 2018.

Given the tepid response that The Crimes of Grindelwald received from audiences, it likely made its 5-week run in the Top 10 box office report on goodwill from Harry Potter fans alone. Perhaps the extra time will allow the writers to capture the magic, wonder, and fun of the first movie and the Harry Potter universe with a compelling story to make fans eagerly anticipate installments four and five.

This last point was reinforced by a quote from Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group:

We all believe this release date will give the filmmakers time and space to allow their artistry to truly flourish and deliver the best possible film to our fans.
