The third installment of the "Fantastic Beasts" series now has an official title and a new release date. Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Fantastic Beats: The Secrets of Dumbledore will open in theaters April 15, 2022, which is the Easter holiday weekend.
The series is based on the Harry Potter franchise, and this movie follows Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which was released in November 2018. It was originally going to open in this November, but the studio announced last November that the movie was being delayed to "summer 2022" and that Johnny Depp would no longer be playing the villainous Grindelwald. It was later announced that Mads Mikkelsen was replacing Depp.
The second installment was a bit of a disappointment in the box office and with fans, so the amount of time that has elapsed as well as a casting change may work in this movie's favor.
