There have been 46 U.S. Presidents so far, and some enjoy higher regard than others. One of the most highly regarded in the list is Abraham Lincoln, and one of the best movies about a President is also about the man with an iconic taste in hats! Daniel Day-Lewis plays the lead in Steven Spielberg's excellent Lincoln, which opened in theaters in 2012.
Focusing on the sixteenth President's tumultuous final months in office, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment changed the fate of generations to come.
The movie was Academy Award® winner for Actor In a Leading Role and Production Design, and it was nominated for Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Best Picture, Cinematography, Costume Design, Directing, Film Editing, Music (Original Score), Sound Mixing, and Writing (Adapted Screenplay).
I gave the movie our highest See Now! rating, even though I fell asleep watching it the first time. You may think that's an insult, but it was more a result of me trying to watch it at the wrong time, and there are points in the movie where it slows to the point of being a little ponderous. However, I've seen it multiple times, and like many of Spielberg's movies, my opinion improves with every viewing. This is one of those movies that you will likely find yourself rewatching, even if for just a few scenes at a time. Daniel Day-Lewis makes you think that you're actually watching the legendary man from Illinois in person!
For that reason, I recommend buying the movie, but you have plenty of options, which are included below!
