The AMC Classic Hickory Point 12 in Forsyth, Illinois has closed permanently. The last time we received showtimes updates was December 4, 2020, so its last day of operation was likely that weekend.

We could not find any news articles or other references that explained the theater's closure, but this is just the latest in a recent string of AMC closures. The coronavirus pandemic has impacted theaters greatly, since most theaters in the United States closed in March 2020. Some have reopened, while others haven't, but those that have are struggling to navigate regional and local health restrictions while having very few new releases to show to their customers.

According to our records, the theater originally opened in December 1980 by AMC Theatres as a 6-screen location. It later became a GKC Theatres location, which expanded to 8 screens in 1988 and to 12 screens in 1994. Carmike purchased GKC in 2005, and it became the Carmike Hickory Point 12. It became the AMC Classic Hickory Point 12 in March 2017 after AMC acquired Carmike Cinemas.

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Avon Theatre and AMC Classic Decatur 10 in Decatur, and the Clintonia Eagle in Clinton. None of those are currently open and showing movies yet.
