A drive-in movie experience is coming to the Milwaukee Milkmen Stadium in Franklin, Wisconsin, where moviegoers can watch a movie on the large LED video board even before the sun goes down.

The Milky Way Drive-In, as they're calling it, will start playing movies Memorial Day weekend, with the first show on Friday, May 22, 2020 at 6pm of Disney Pixar's Onward. They are intending to show movies even after the Milkmen resume playing baseball, so this could be the first time Milwaukee has had an operating drive-in movie theater through the summer for many years!

The LED display is 40 feet, according to their web site, but we're not sure if that's the width or a diagonal measurement. Even if it's the width, that's much smaller than a typical 70-100 foot drive-in screen, but it's the best available without traveling to one of the two closest drive-in theaters. The LED technology, vs a traditional movie projector, allows them to start movies before the sun has set. Sound will be provided via outdoor speakers, an FM radio station, or an app that can be used while connected to the drive-in's wifi network.

The Milwaukee Milkmen Stadium is located at 7035 S. Ballpark Drive, near 76th Street and Rawson Avenue. According to the theater's web site, the gates will open one hour prior to the start of the movie. Food and beverages will be offered for sale, and no carry-ins are allowed.

Admission is $35 per vehicle, but those with dreams of stuffing 20 people in their cars will be limited to the number of permanent seatbelts installed in the vehicle. Tickets must be purchased in advance on their web site.

Opening Weekend Lineup

Friday, May 22nd

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw

Saturday, May 23rd

The Milkmen aren't the only baseball team with this idea. The Madison Mallards also will be showing movies in their stadium.
