The movie theater in the Gadsden Mall in Gadsden, Alabama is getting a luxury makeover in 2024. According to an announcement by Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford on January 18, 2024, the Premiere Cinemas - Gadsden Premiere Cinema 16 will be upgraded to a "luxury cinema experience."

Located on the northwest corner of the Highway 411 interchange with I-759, the Gadsden Mall offers shopping and dining options, as well as other entertainment. The theater was built in 2003.

According to the announcement, the theater's 16 auditoriums will be upgraded with powered leather recliner seating with USB ports and swivel tray tables. Those tables will make it possible for in-theater dining, where patrons can order from a menu of food options that include gourmet burgers, pizza, adult drinks, and more. Self-serve beverage stations will allow for unlimited refills.

The theater is operated by Premiere Cinema Corp., which operates movie theaters across Alabama and five other states. Several of its locations are identified with "PREMIERE LUX Ciné" branding, so we expect that this will likely be the case at the Gadsden location as well. The company hopes to unveil the luxury upgrades by the end of 2024.

It appears that the movie theater will stay open while the upgrades are performed. The announcement mentioned that half the theater's 16 auditoriums will close at a time to minimize the disruption to customers.

If it does close, moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Lucas Cinemas Albertville in Albertville.
