The AMC Classic Towne Crossing 8 in Greeneville, Tennessee has closed.

Located north of Greenville along West Andrew Johnson Highway, the movie theater was operated by AMC Theatres, which is the largest movie theater chain in the United States. It originally opened in 2006, AMC has been operating it since 2017 when the company purchased Carmike Cinemas.

The closure should be temporary, as news reports say that a new operator will be taking over sometime in May. No details were announced about who that operator might be.

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the AMC Classic College Square 12 in Morristown and the AMC Johnson City 14 in Johnson City.

Theater History

According to our records, the theater originally opened in 2006. It was formerly the Big Cinemas Towne Crossing 8, which was sold by Phoenix-Adlabs Theatre Management, LLC to Carmike Cinemas on December 14, 2012. It was renamed to the Carmike Towne Center 8, and then the Carmike Town Crossing 8.

It became the AMC Towne Crossing 8 in March 2017 after AMC acquired Carmike Cinemas. By December 15, 2019, it was known as the AMC Classic Towne Crossing 8.
