Greenville, New York lost an icon when the Greenville Drive-In 32 along State Route 32 was closed for the 2025 season, but moviegoers have reason to celebrate. The historic outdoor movie theater will be opening later this month under new management.
The news that the drive-in was not going to reopen last year was delivered in an announcement on the theater's website and Facebook page. Owners Dwight Grimm and Leigh Van Swall had some family committments that prevented them from operating the drive-in at the same time.
In April, they announced that Scene One Entertainment would be operating the drive-in this year, and possibly into the future:
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM DWIGHT & LEIGH:
Exciting news! As you may have heard, Leigh and I have reached an agreement with Scene One Entertainment and its’ founder, Joe Masher, to operate the Greenville Drive-in for the 2026 Season and potentially beyond.
(NB - an important correction to several of the news articles circulating locally - Leigh and I still own the drive-in property. Scene One is leasing it from us as its’ operator.)
We both welcome this development and are pleased to see the continuation of the drive-in’s service as a unique entertainment venue in Greenville and the wider Northern Catskills community. Joe and his team will be building on and enhancing the vibe Leigh and I have spent the last decade creating in Greenville, bringing his considerable experience as a veteran operator of historic theatres around the United States. Scene One currently operates nine other theatres in five states, including a local favorite – the Spectrum in Albany – and we believe the drive-in is in good hands with them. Thanks to Scene One’s lengthy relationships with studios & distributors, the Greenville Drive-in will have improved access to programming going forward. We are particularly excited about the proposed line-up for the 2026 Season, which will be a mix of popular first-run and classic movie favorites, paired, of course, with creative food & beverage items. The present plan is to have the theatre back open to the public beginning on May 15.
Leigh and I continue to remain focused on our out-of-state eldercare commitments, but we will be providing some creative input and insight to Joe & Scene One as things progress. Do not be surprised if you happen to see us there in the audience ourselves a few times during the summer! We have missed you all and we are pleased to see the lights coming back on this season in Greenville.
Movies will be showing under the stars at the theater starting Friday, May 15, 2026.
