The Beacon Drive-In Theatre in Guthrie, Oklahoma didn't reopen for the 2025 season, and a recent news article states that the property has been purchased with plans that do not include showing movies.

Located about 30 miles north of Oklahoma City along Highway 77, the outdoor movie theater originally opened April 22, 1950. It leaves behind a legacy of more than 70 years of serving generations of moviegoers in the northern Oklahoma area.

When we visited the Beacon Drive-In back in 2021, the movie listed was American Graffiti from 1973, but the theater also showed first-run movies as well. According to its Facebook page, the last movie shown was Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in early October 2024. It did not reopen for the 2025 season.

According to an article published recently by the Guthrie News Page (see below), the drive-in's property was sold about a month ago for $2.2 million. It will be replaced with a new location for the Communication Federal Credit Union.

How Many Drive-in Theaters are in Oklahoma?

Its departure leaves just five drive-in movie theaters in Oklahoma, which underscores the importance of attending movie theaters. Many of these theaters are fixtures in their communities, but for them to survive and thrive, they need us to not only look at them as we drive by, but also line up to enjoy the movies they show. By doing so, the generations that follow us will know the experience of watching movies under the stars!

Where to Watch Movies on the Big Screen

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the ShowBiz Cinemas - Edmond and the ICON Cinema - Edmond in Edmond, and the AMC Quail Springs Mall 24 in Oklahoma City. Those wanting to see movies under the stars, the closest drive-in is the Winchester Drive-In on the other side of Oklahoma City.
