The Cinema Cafe - Riverdale Hampton in Hampton, Virginia has closed.

Located northeast of the Mercury Boulevard interchange with I-64, the theater was operated by Cinema Cafe, which operates five other locations across Virginia. It originally opened March 14, 1997 as the Regal Riverdale Plaza 12 (Regal Cinemas), and became the York River Crossing Cinemas - Riverdale Coliseum 12 in 2002. It became the 6-screen Cinema Cafe - Riverdale Hampton in May 2005.

News of the theater's closure was announced on the theater's social media outlets, including this message posted to its Facebook page on October 30, 2023:

Dear Friends of the Cinema Cafe, it is with deep regret that we must announce the closure of our Hampton Riverdale location following the expiration of our lease, as of today. We want to express our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support over the last 18 years in the Hampton community. Your patronage, enthusiasm, and trust have been the pillars of our success, and we are immensely grateful for your loyalty and the memories we will cherish. We hope that the talented team at the Riverdale will carry the spirit of Cinema Cafe into their future endeavors, and we hope you will continue to support them in their new adventures as you see them around town. Once again, from the bottom of our hearts, we thank our Hampton managers, crew, and patrons for being an integral part of the Cinema Cafe family. We'll see you at the movies.

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the EVO Entertainment - Peninsula Town Center, which is just a half mile away. The AMC Hampton Towne Centre 24 and the IMAX - Virginia Air & Space Center in Hampton are also nearby.

If you have Cinema Cafe gift cards, you can use them at their other locations. The closest of which is the Cinema Cafe - Pembroke Meadows - VA Beach in Virginia Beach, which is about nineteen miles away. You can request a refund using a Google Form that they have created.
