A new 10-screen movie theater is coming to the Hanover Crossing development in Hanover, Massachusetts. It is expected to open in 2021.

We don't have an official name for the theater yet, so we are tentatively calling it the Showcase Cinema - Hanover Crossing.

According to a press release issued recently, the movie theater will be operated by Showcase Cinemas and will have ten screens, with each auditorium equipped with laser-powered digital projection systems and powered reclining seats.

Located on Washington Street just south of Pilgrims Highway (about 23 miles southeast of Boston), Hanover Crossing is replacing the enclosed Hanover Mall, which will be demolished to make way for the new open-air "entertainment, lifestyle, and entertainment destination" which is a popular trend across the country. The new movie theater will replace the Patriot Cinemas - Hanover Mall Cinemas 10, which will be demolished at some point in the future to make room for apartment buildings.

It's going to take a while for the new theater to be open (it's not planned to open until 2021), so until it opens, moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the aforementioned theater, the Cameo Theatre 1 & 2 in South Weymouth, and Patriot Cinemas - Loring Hall Cinema in Hingham.

HANOVER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PREP Property Group Inc. Planned for a 2021 opening, the new Showcase Cinemas location will include 1,000 seats and 10 auditoriums within the 42,500 square-foot space. Each auditorium will feature state-of-the art screens, the latest laser projection and audio technology along with power-operated, fully reclining chairs with swivel tables. Acting as a community centerpiece for the new mixed-use development, the cinema will also offer a luxurious lobby with a planned full-service bar and an innovative “all-in-one” concessions experience.
