Moviegoers in Healdsburg, California have reason to rejoice as movies return to the Sonoma County city 69 miles north of San Francisco.

The True West Cinemas in the James Redford Campus located in downtown Healdsburg opens today, October 17, 2025, with a grand opening celebration scheduled for October 25. The campus is named in honor of the late documentary filmmaker James Redford, son of the late actor and Sundance Film Festival founder Robert Redford.

The new movie theater will play first-run movies, and will launch its repertory program with two movies made in Sonoma County: Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds and Wes Craven’s Scream. Additionally, it will offer food and wine from local sources.

“Welcoming audiences into True West Cinemas is a dream come true, and a reflection of the generous community support for which we are so grateful,” said Kathryn Philip, Executive Director of True West Film Center. “We hope to offer an experience that feels both unique and deeply connected to our community, with thoughtfully curated films complemented by food, wine, and the spirit of the North Bay region.”

Until now, the only options have been one of the other nearby theaters, including the Airport Stadium 12 in Santa Rosa and the Monte Rio Theater in Monte Rio.
