Director, producer, and all-around major movie guy James Cameron (Titanic, True Lies, Aliens, Terminator, Terminator 2, et al) is calling for an all-out assault of digital cinema installations in movie theaters. His comments came during his keynote address at the National Association of Broadcasters' Digital Cinema Summit.
"We're in a fight for survival here," Cameron told the overflow crowd in the Las Vegas Convention Center. "Maybe we just need to fight back harder, come out blazing, not wither away and die. D-cinema can do it, for a number of reasons, but because d-cinema is an enabling technology for 3-D. Digital 3-D is a revolutionary form of showmanship that is within our grasp. It can get people off their butts and away from their portable devices and get people back in the theaters where they belong."Cameron has been a big proponent of 3D and has said that he only wants to make 3D movies. He reportedly is considering re-releasing 1997's Titanic in digital 3D, and both Peter Jackson and George Lucas are warm to the idea of bringing the Star Wars movies, King Kong, and possibly the Lord of the Rings trilogy to the big screen once again with 3D. The Hollywood Reporter has the full story "Cameron: D-cinema is exhibition's salvation" on the read link.
