Knoxville, TN: Halls Cinema 7 Closed

Posted on Thursday, February 22, 2024 12:46 PM

'Closed' sign

The Halls Cinema 7 in Knoxville, Tennessee has closed. Its last day of operation was Tuesday, February 20, 2024.

Located about eight miles north of downtown Knoxville along Neal Road just west of Maynardville Pike, the theater originally opened in 2009. The closure was announced on its Facebook page on closing day, which read:

The family and staff of Halls Cinema 7 regrettably announce that the theater will close its doors, effective today, Tuesday, February 20, 2024.

Halls Cin‚Äčema 7 is proud to be known for offering quality entertainment at affordable prices. Over the last fourteen years, you have given us the opportunity to serve the Halls community and we are both humble and proud to be part of your memories. Since opening the theater in 2009, we are grateful to have been able to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in the local community in areas of renovation and supplies and have proudly shared our journey with over 230 of the area's most talented and unique staff. We will forever be thankful for your confidence, support, and patronage and will forever be thankful you have allowed us to be part of your lives.

Paul Wylie opened the theater in 2009. He owned and operated movie theaters in multiple cities and states and his vision positively impacted communities, like Halls, for over 68 years. Sadly, today marks the end of his legacy. I am confident that if he were with us today, he would say he had been blessed by patrons and employees alike whose support and enthusiasm for movies greatly enhanced his life. We are grateful for the opportunity to have been part of his vision.

The decision to close was made after long and careful deliberation. Our decision was based on economics. Revenues simply did not keep up with the cost of operation. As an Independent theater, we are constantly combatting the struggle between our desire to provide customers with what they deserve and expect with the cost of providing the latest in technology, meeting the needs of ever-changing consumer preferences, and in recent years, dealing with a drastic reduction in available quality programming. We do realize, as a member of the Halls community, it's very personal, and it hurts to say goodbye.

Although this decision may seem a reflection of how we view the future of the industry overall, it is not. We continue to believe that nothing replaces the feeling of going to your local theater with family and friends to see a newly released movie you've been anticipating. We stand firm in our belief that movie theaters positively impact the world around them through the sheer happiness they bring and the memories they provide individuals and families through entertainment, educational enhancement, and community-centered programming. As we will always do, we ask that you continue to support your local movie theater!

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Central Cinema and the Regal Riviera Stadium 8.
