The Emagine Geneva Lakes in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin opened to the public on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, and we were there for the ribbon cutting and charity event that was held the night before!
This theater is newly remodeled and it's the first location in Wisconsin for the Michigan-based company, Emagine Entertainment. It was formerly known as the Showboat of Lyons, which closed in September 2017.
We took dozens of photos at the event and of the facility so that you could get a good idea of what to expect when you visit and see a movie there. Check out the 59 photos that made the cut on the Photo Gallery page for the theater!
After the ribbon-cutting ceremony and some very good catered food, guests were welcome to try out the concessions and take in a movie. I bypassed the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine and grabbed a bottled water, which made it easy to carry the deep-fried cheese curds and the mix of caramel corn and cheese corn that the staff was more than happy to make for me.
Every auditorium is outfitted with some very nice powered reclining chairs. Every chair has an armrest that can be raised or lowered so you can join that special someone in a closer movie experience, but if you're looking for even more closeness, they have what the company calls "cuddle chairs" which are sold in pairs and are intended to provide a unique angle on the movie from the front row.

Auditorium #8 is their largest and it features a Dolby Atmos immersive sound system. They were playing demo clips on a loop during the event, and then they showed Avengers: Infinity War afterward. I can tell you that I'm very familiar with the Dolby Atmos clip they were playing, and the imaging both above and around you was very good, and the bass that came at the end was nice and loud! I asked if they had the volume turned up or if that was going to be the standard volume for all movies, and they said that it was set for reference level and they intended to keep it there.
Auditorium #8 has a wonderful Atmos immersive surround sound system that will knock your socks off!
While many theaters play movies at sound levels much lower than reference level because of customer complaints, I hope that they are able to keep the volume right where it is. Even after 2.5 hours of watching superhero action, I did not feel as though they should have turned it down at all. There was no distortion, which is the main reason why I think people complain about volume levels.
This is a very nice theater! From the bar and lounge with an outdoor terrace, to the concession stand with the standards as well as enhanced items, such as made-to-order pizzas baked in a brick oven, to the nicely appointed auditoriums, this theater is a far cry from the former Showboat of Lyons when it closed.
