The Long Drive-in in Long Prairie, Minnesota is closed because high winds damaged their screen recently. Long Prairie is located in central Minnesota, about 125 northwest of Minneapolis.

WCCO interviewed owners Michelle and Daniel Claseman, who are planning to reopen the theater:

“It basically came from behind it and pushed it all forward,” said Michelle Claseman, who owns the drive-in with her husband Daniel.

All that’s left of the original screen is some tattered scaffolding and a few white panels. It’s where families have watched movies after sunset for over a half a century.

“It’s been watching over the yard for 60 years, so you can just imagine how it’s watched time change,” Michelle said.

The Long Drive-in will be closed until repairs can be made. A fundraising page has been created to help them offset costs that aren't covered by insurance.

Unfortunately for moviegoers that enjoy watching movies under the stars, the Long Drive-in is the only outdoor theater within 50 miles. There are only five drive-ins left in Minnesota, so here's hoping that the owners can repair their screen and be back to showing movies again soon!
