The AMC Classic Madisonville 8 in Madisonville, Kentucky has closed.

Located in the Parkway Plaza Mall off the Madisonville/Central City exit of I-69, the eight-screen movie theater last provided showtimes updates on January 7, 2022. The theater's page on AMC's website just says "AMC CLASSIC Madisonville 8 Has Permanently Closed" and directs visitors to the AMC Evansville 16 in Evansville, Indiana.

Fans of the Madisonville 8 are hoping to reverse the decision by launching an online petition. Started by a former employee, the petition says that the theater was "our escape" and a "place to go with friends on a rainy day." As of this writing, the petition had over 4,300 signatures.

Until it opens (if it does), moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Cinema 33 in Hartford.

According to our records, the theater originally opened November 1, 2002 as the Big Cinemas Capitol 8 Theatres. It was sold by Phoenix-Adlabs Theatre Management, LLC to Carmike Cinemas on December 14, 2012 and renamed the Carmike Capitol 8. It became the AMC Classic Madisonville 8 in March 2017 after AMC acquired Carmike Cinemas.
