The AMC Showplace Mattoon 10 in Mattoon, Illinois has closed.
Located just east of I-57 along Highway 16, the last day of operation for the ten-screen movie theater was Thursday, August 7, 2025. The theater's closure is part of a series of AMC locations closing recently, which included locations in Marion and Pekin, Illinois, Marion, Indiana, and Milledgeville, Georgia. According to news reports, it appears that this location didn't pass the company's viability tests.
Theater History
The theater was opened by Kerasotes ShowPlace Theatres, LLC. on December 15, 1995 as the Kerasotes ShowPlace 8. Expanded to 10 screens in December 2004 and renamed to the Kerasotes ShowPlace 10 - Mattoon. It was purchased by AMC Entertainment in 2010 and it became the AMC Showplace Mattoon 10.
Where to Watch Movies on the Big Screen
Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Boarman's Roxy Theatre in Shelbyville and the RMC Stadium Cinemas at Effingham in Effingham. The closest AMC location is the AMC Classic Decatur 10, which is almost 40 miles away.
