Moviegoers in Mattoon, Illinois haven't had a movie theater in town since the AMC Showplace Mattoon 10 closed in August, but it appears that it will be opening at some point in the future under new management.

Located about 46 miles south of Champaign along I-57 just east of the Highway 16 interchange, the ten-screen movie theater will be the latest location for VIP Cinemas, which operates movie theaters in Illinois and six other states. We don't have an official name yet, but it's referenced as the VIP Mattoon 10 on the company's website, so we'll go with that name until notified otherwise.

We found job listings online for a General Manager (full-time), Shift Manager (part-time), and Cast Members (part-time). In those listings, VIP Cinemas describes itself as "... driven to bring communities together to experience the magic of movies the way they were intended to be seen—on the big screen with friends and family." For the "cast member" positions, applicants must be at least 16 years of age, must be willing to work weekends, evenings, and holidays, and show up for work when scheduled.

What Changes to Expect When It Opens

Since the Mattoon location is not listed on the VIP Cinemas website, we don't have any information about any upgrades, renovations, or changes that the company is making to the theater. We also could not find an opening date mentioned anywhere.

Until it reopens, moviegoers in the area will need to continue visiting one of the other nearby theaters, including the Boarman's Roxy Theatre in Shelbyville and the RMC Stadium Cinemas at Effingham in Effingham.
