The movie theater in Mattoon, Illinois has been closed since August, but moviegoers in the area have reason to rejoice now that the VIP Mattoon 10 has opened!
Located just east of I-57 along Highway 16, it was previously known as the AMC Showplace Mattoon 10, which closed in August. The theater's closure is part of a series of AMC locations closing recently, which included locations in Marion and Pekin, Illinois, as well as in Indiana and Georgia.
VIP Cinemas is operating the movie theater. The company bills itself as a family-owned chain of movie theaters, with locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, and Missouri. The closest to Mattoon is the VIP Lincoln Grand, which is over 70 miles away in Lincoln.
Until now, moviegoers in the area needed to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Boarman's Roxy Theatre in Shelbyville and the RMC Stadium Cinemas at Effingham in Effingham.
