The Malco Powerhouse Cinema Grill & MXT in the historic downtown South Main District of Memphis, Tennessee opened in 2019. One of our readers took photos during his visit and shared them with us in the theater's Photo Gallery.

The theater is operated by Malco Theatres, which has locations in Tennessee and five other states. When it opened, it was the debut of the company's premium MXT "Extreme" Theatre. The Malco website describes MXT as including "4K laser projection, a giant screen, luxury seating, and Dolby Atmos audio for an extreme movie-going experience."

The theater is located in a brick building dating back to 1914 that was once a power source to South Main's Central Station, which served the Illinois Central railway line nearby. The smokestack remains, but the building needed extensive renovation, all under the watchful gaze of the Historic Preservation Office and Federal Transit Administration.
