The Times Cinema in Milwaukee, Wisconsin has stopped showing movies on a regular basis.
Located on 59th Street and Vliet Street on the west side of Milwaukee, the single-screen movie theater has a long history in the neighborhood and dates back to 1935. The theater posted the following message to its Facebook page on February 2:
Happy Friday!! We wanted to provide an update on the Times Cinema. We are doing some shifting with programming at the Times Cinema. Going forward, we will be utilizing the venue to hold special public or private events in place of regularly scheduled repertory films. To everyone who has come to the Times, THANK YOU for your support and patience. In this adjustment, we hope to bring you great events that you'll want to come to be part of!
The theater is operated by the Neighborhood Theater Group, which also operates the Avalon Theatre on Milwaukee's south side in Bay View. The company also operated the Rosebud Cinema until nearly every theater in the country closed in March 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic. While other theaters eventually opened, the Rosebud did not. That location is about a mile away on North Avenue in Wauwatosa and is expected to open next week.
The Times Cinema hasn't given up showing movies completely, though, as it will be showing Krush Groove in partnership with WMSE 91.7FM's Friday Night Freak Show series. Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Rosebud Cinema (which is hoping to open soon) and the AMC Mayfair Mall 18.
